The Evergreen Freedom Foundation is now accepting applications to fill up to eight student summer internship positions. The internships are seven to eight weeks long, and run from June 13 - August 10, 2005. Each intern will work 24 hours per week. Twenty-four hours of academic instruction in economics and government instruction is provided by qualified EFF staff and visiting teachers.

To the best of our ability, students will be assigned projects that match their interests and strengths. Projects in 2005 range from policy research, writing, administration, publication design, and conference and special events support. Depending on qualifications, additional hours may be available.

  • show a track record of leadership,
  • agree to show up as scheduled, on time, dressed appropriately, and
  • demonstrate a working knowledge of Word or Word Perfect and Excel.

Compensation
Students will be paid $7.16 per hour for work time and academic instruction. No employee benefits, housing or transportation are provided.

1 Part Honesty; 2 Parts Arrogance

At a March 23, 2005, House Appropriations hearing on a bill to gut the voter-approved I-601 spending limit, Rep. Jim McIntire (D) asked a supporter of I-601’s two-third supermajority requirement for the legislature to raise taxes the following question:

"Can you name a time when we [legislators] have actually not just set it [supermajority requirement] aside by majority vote? I mean, this is in many respects a procedural motion that has no bearing. It’s a statutory constraint that cannot constrain any legislature that chooses as a majority to set it aside . . . have we ever used a supermajority [to raise taxes]?"

Despite the arrogance of some state officials, Washington's constitution is clear: "All political power is inherent in the people..."
