Many states offer tax "incentives" to corporations to entice them to provide jobs by relocating or staying in their state. Our state gave Boeing Corporation a $3.2 billion tax break along with much needed unemployment insurance reforms, but it was still not enough to keep the airline giant in our state. Hoping to keep the high-paying aircraft jobs in our state, the executive branch crafted an additional deal with Boeing.

The contract and related documents were public records, so ou Foundation asked to see the deal crafted on behalf of taxpayers. State officials refused to forward the most important elements until we filed action against the state in court. But even before we got the details, what we discovered regarding the terms offered to Boeing was shocking.
