WEA FIGHTING "RIGHT WING CONSERVATIVE COALITION,"
SUES PUBLIC DISCLOSURE COMMISSION
Sound confusing? It did to me too. But in a letter from WEA Olympic
UniServ Council president this seems to be the message.http://www.effwa.org/tppreport/wealetter.pdf
In the letter she says the "right wing conservative coalition wants public education to be a thing of the past" (Huh? Thousands of public educators want union accountability for election activity...how does that affect the existence of public education?)
And the letter said: "[president] Charles stood in front of Council Presidents and stated that a new era has arrived in Federal Way. We wont be acting passive and hoping the attacks will go away. The Public Disclosure Commission members were served lawsuit papers last week"
Actually, WEA has found the time and resources to file TWO lawsuits against that right-wing extremist organization, the Public Disclosure Commission. King County Case #012293885 Seeks to circumvent or toss out the law requiring districts to have for public display the permission slips of those who contribute to WEA-PAC.
Seems silly because PAC contributors are generally supposed to be reported to the state, and payroll deductions should be public to prevent quiet deductions from unwilling donors (as happened in one school district I visited and may be happening in more).
King County Case #0121604 Seeks to circumvent or toss out parts of new PDC guidelines clarifying that use of school facilities for election-affecting purposes are illegal. See for yourself if these guidelines jeopardize public education.
It seems that the PDC was tired of fining school districts for campaign activities on the grounds (does that ever happen?). The Commission instructed staff to promote guidelines to clarify the issue for administrators, union officials, educators and the public.
